last barn

The most southern barn of the 3 is resigned to its fate.  Broken and hemorrhaging hay, whatever energy it once possessed now seems spent.  As solid as the ladder to the loft is, there is no destination at the other end.  The March air has a late day chill - Michael & I quietly pack our gear and head for home.

I don't know which of our three barns is the oldest but it appears they are destined to end their lives at the same time.  The middle brother of the 3 appears the strongest - reluctantly yielding a keyhole view of its dark interior.  And around one corner, a red boat.

3 barns

With nothing better to do on an overcast March day, Keating & I went on a little photo excursion.  Not far into Ohio, three old poplar barns sit in a state of decay - awaiting sure destruction from the blunt end of a dozer blade.  Before they are gone, it seemed fitting that some parts be preserved:  a sagging red door, a blue boat and light that only comes from age.

Last blast of winter?  It is March, so you never know.  One thing to be sure of:  fresh snow + cameras = interesting photos.

urban renewal

Having lived near the Queen City for 40 years, I would never have guessed that the upper reaches of Vine & Main Streets would reclaim their past glory.  Well, I was wrong.  As if a door was opened & then kicked off its hinges, new shops and restaurants are working their way deep into Over the Rhine.  Young, energetic owners & customers seem very serious about making the rebirth of this old, German neighborhood stick this time (after years of false starts).  Daniel Wright is one of those folks.  Head chef of side by side eateries, The Senate & Abigail Street, he serves up Mediterranean wine bar and Chicago ball park.  Sound odd?  Well, not to the eclectic crowd who now call Vine & Main their entertainment home.  So, if it's grilled octopus, ahi tuna, trailer park hotdogs or just a micro brewed draft you want - take a trip back to old Cincinnati, all dressed up in new clothes.
